The Dig

I'm an archaeologist and dig for fun
and keep a little list of what I've done

Underneath the garden gate I found a hat,
a piece of broken dinner plate, not only that -

Once I found a coin of gold - I looked at it.
Daddy said it was a dirty threepenny bit

Baked bean tins and rubber bands are what I found
There are most surprising things beneath the ground

So I dig and dig away with laughs and moans
Treasure perhaps I'll find one day, or just old bones
