A-tingling

A Christmas Carol

The animals spoke that starlit night, when the Holy Babe was born
and Angels appeared in radiant light on that momentous dawn

All the earth's a-tingling, a-tingling, a-tingling with joy this morn
and the bells a-ringing, a-ringing for Christ is born

The ox looked sad and he shook his head as he stood there in his stall
"I've nothing to give him" he said, "I've only my strength, that's all"

The ass was silent and he sighed. "I've only my legs", he thought
"But perhaps one day on my back He'll ride and to triumph the King be brought"

The lamb was shivering, for his fleece as an offering he had made
and a smile there was on the Prince of Peace at the sacrifice displayed

Mary was aware in her heart that she a sacrifice too would give
"My child is the Son of God, and He will suffer that man might live"
