A Trunk Call

I'm a crinkly, wrinkly elephant, and overweight
I want to make a trunk call before it is too late -
To let the whole world know I just want to be free
From poachers who will kill me for my ivory

I'm thick-skinned but I'm sensitive beneath, you know
I'm like the poor old tortoise and my pace is slow
But I've a marvellous memory and no regrets
It's well known that an elephant never forgets

I don't mind children laughing at my floppy ears
but injuries by men remain with me for years
And compliments I like to hear; pats on my back
Please let me go on living, not threatened by attack
