THE DOOR

'I am the door' You said, that leads to more abundant life
Where I can fling myself upon the grass and feel the breeze caress my limbs
And gaze upon the scudding clouds and know the bounding joy of frisking lambs
And listen to the soaring lark and join the chorus of the daffodils that trumpet forth the spring
Exhilarating freedom I shall find and marvel at the beauty all around.

'I am the door', You said, that leads to inner peace
Where all my wounds of injured pride and scars of hopes unfulfilled are soothed away with Your tranquillity
No blustering winds of anger do I feel; no jealousy or hate
For I'm enfolded in Your cloak of understanding, comforting and calm.

'I am the door', You said, through which one day I have to go
But with no fear, for love stands sentinel and He will gently take me by the hand
And lead me to the place He has prepared for me
Then all my suffering will become a memory as dreams dissolve at dawn
For I'll have reached the promised realm of unimagined joy.
