Doubt stood at the door of my mind, then came in.
'Why go on believing in what you can't see?
Your faith brings no joy, no peace that was promised
Deep-centred within.
No answer to prayer, so it seems up to now
No prompting, no guidance
No proof God's in charge of the world or yourself'.
Thus Doubt spoke to me.
'Look out of the window, how bleak and how raw!
The earth gripped by winter, as fear grips your heart',
Doubt went on to say.
Persuasive he was, for I had lost hope
Then I saw a snowdrop announcing the advent of spring
Its thrust through the darkness upwards to the light
Was evidence there of God's love
And then in that moment I knew
That Doubt would depart.
